The Red E. Fox program is designed for children 3 years old through 2nd grade. Your 9-1-1 District provides public education on the proper use of 9-1-1 within Ector County. Working in conjunction with other districts, regional councils of government, the Texas Commission on Emergency Communication (CSEC), the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), many educational resources are available.
In
Ector County the program is directed to 2nd grade children with the
presentation
of an 18 minute video entitled "The Great 9-1-1 Adventure" which
is available in both english and spanish. In the video, Red E.
Fox
joins several friends in educating us on when to use 9-1-1, and
reminding
us not to play on 9-1-1 as well. Bilingual activity pages are
distributed
after viewing the video, reinforcing the messages presented. To
maintain
a level of excitement with the children, two styles of stickers are
also
presented; a Red E. Fox sticker, and a 9-1-1 Hero sticker. Upon
request
(and availability) Red E. Fox himself also finds time to appear after
the
video to shake hands with the children and receive a hug or two.
With the cooperation of the Ector County Independent School District (ECISD), every year an invitation is extended to every public school to allow Red E. Fox to make this presentation to each 2nd grade class.
Red E. Fox makes guest appearances upon request to various events when public-safety issues are being emphasized. Red E. Fox has appeared on ECISD television, and has made several appearances at the stadiums in Midland duringMidland Rockhounds baseball games and in Odessa at the Ector County Coliseum during the Odessa Jackalopes hockey games and Odessa Roughnecks indoor football games. Red E. Fox has appeared at the Permian Basin Fair and Exposition, Safety Camps, Health Fairs, and many parades, reminding children of the importance of 9-1-1 in our community.
At special
appearances,
Red E. Fox usually hands out some of his bilingual coloring books,
pencils,
rulers, or crayons. He always seems to have a supply of his
stickers
on hand, so he can leave his mark on those he meets. During
2004,
Red E. Fox is handing out trading cards during special appearances.
